Howdy
I have read a couple of the 1 day trip%26#39;s that have been done recently by fellow forumers and my jaw dropped. We are unsure yet as to whether we will have time to fit in a day trip to Macua all dependant on how well my plans work in HK and the weather etc. I am though determined to make it work and allocate a full day to get to Macau, although research is a little shabby so far! ;).
I see the ferry%26#39;s leave as early as 7am, would it be wise to try and go bright and early say at 8am to get there by 9.00am and clear immigration etc? Does clearance take long? or is it a stamp and go sorta thing.
Now I know 2 things I must do so far in Macau and firstly it%26#39;s visit a real casino (not like what we have here in Aus, I%26#39;ve heard they are amazing in Macau along the lines of Vegas!) which is the best one and how much time for a browse?
and the 2nd place is the macau tower as I would like to do the repel from the top (saw on amazing race!), would need best option to get there.
Also have to eat so ideas for lunch?
and some history and photo ops also, so suggestions there to get me started please would be great.
Thanks in advance

P.s Staying at YMCA HK (does the ferry to macau leave from the TST ferry terminal?)
Day trip to Macau from Hk, suggestions %26amp; questions pls
As long as you are not going to Macau at the weekend, immigration in Macau is generally not too bad - maybe a 10 minute wait. HK immigration is usually fine.
An 8am from HK start would be different - with the advantage that you would see lots of the places before the tours start running and the crowds build up. Stop at Margaret%26#39;s for coofee and egg tarts before you start sightseeing.
I suppose the Venetian or Sands Casino are the flashiest now, although Lisboa might be worth a look.
Do you mean the sky walk in the Macau Tower? Maybe best to book in advance - not sure though.
Easy to get around Macau by bus (bring HK coins with you can use) or taxi (have address written in Chinese / have map from tourist office).
Lunch - ALorcha is great. I also like Nga Tin cafe in Coloane Village. Santos in Taipa Village was also good on my last visit. You can%26#39;t really go wrong with food in Macau!
The tourist office has maps with walking tours which are good. Taipa Village is interesting. The main part of Macau is great to get lost in - every corner has another charm and another phot op. Colaone Village if you have time.
If you have a big appetite, try to have dinner in Macau followed by a drink or two - the wine is excellent value. Ferries back to HK island overnight, while to Kowloon (China ferry terminal) stop at midnight I think.

Have you checked out www.macautourism.gov.mo yet?
There are two completely different kinds of casinos in Macau - the new Vegas style ones (Venetian, Wynn, Sands, Crown, MGM) and the Chinese style ones (Lisboa, Golden Dragon, Kingsway, Casa Real, etc. etc. etc...).
If you don%26#39;t mind crossing the harbour in HK to get to the Macau Ferry Terminal, you could even start your Macau day earlier than 8am - Turbojet runs 24/7.
I would recommend seeing the Venetian, is massive and the most ';Vegas'; like. But, the casinos are not as fun as Vegas. You could walk from the fort/ruins downtown (food and history), through the square, past the Grand Lisboa to Wynn, then MGM (heard that it is nice inside). You would see heaps on the way.
Macau Tower does have the AJ Hackett Bungee Jump. Very high and terrifying.
Enjoy!
Hi All
Thanks for your feedback.
I have had a look at the Macau Tourism site and have been doing more research.
Think we should definately have a walk around Senado square, seems to be quite a bit historically around there as well as food and shopping.
I think the more las vegas casino%26#39;s would be what I%26#39;d like to see, since i wont be going to US for many years! hehe.
The AJ Hackett thing at Macau tower is the SkyJump here is a descript I took from that site ';the SkyJump lets its guests fly through air at 75km/h in 20 seconds before decelerating to a comfortable landing speed upon reaching ground';.
SOunds cool, but very scarry, better than a bungy as I don%26#39;t think i could stomach that!

Hi Ang, you can take the 0700hrs Cotai jet to Taipa(Macau),then take the Venetian Macau complementary shuttle bus.
From Venetian Macau, well you can take the shuttle bus back to the Macau ferry terminal-maybe you can consider buying your return ticket over here(either turbo jet or new world first ferry-turbo jet arrives into HK Macau ferry terminal at Shun Tak Center-HK island, whereas First ferry arrives at China Ferry Terminal at Kowloon).
At Macau ferry terminal, there is a visitor information center,to take one of the informative street maps;then use the under subway to go across the road, and take a shuttle bus of Wynn or Grand Lisboa, which will take you into heart of MAcau Peninsula-from here, you can stroll to MAcau Tower,or take bus #32 from ferry terminal to MAcau tower.
Then, after that to Senado Sq-St Paul Ruins etc.
Disembarkation cards are available on board the ferry.
Have a great trip.
Hi,
I have posted some of our photos in the traveller photo section, have a look.
The area around Senado Sq %26amp; St Pauls is so beautiful, we took so many photos.
We also took heaps at the Venetian, it is beautiful but don%26#39;t spend too much time there, we did and ran out of time to see other things.
We caught the free shuttle bus from the ferry to the venetian, then a taxi from there to senado square. Had a great lunch at the Singing Bean Cafe, downstairs in the square, then headed to the Grand Prix museum.
Get a map as you get off the ferry, very few taxi drivers speak english (just point on the map the attraction you want to go to, it is in portugese and english). And hold on tight, they all think they are in the grand prix! Our driver back from the venetian was doing over 100 and we had no seat belts!
If you go superclass on the ferry, you get off first so beat the crowds to immigration. Well worth the extra cost and you get a meal also.
Have a great time, you really need more than a day. Just work out what is more important to you.
Pat
