Hotel location near great street food

Will be spending our last two night in Shanghai, would like hotel within short walking distance of places to sample local food. Budget 1500-2000 RMB at most, Dec 19-21. Would prefer smaller, non-corporate hotels China Mansion has rooms for about US $250 and looks great, but I%26#39;m not sure if the location is what we%26#39;re looking for.

Hotel location near great street food

At most? Is it ok if it%26#39;s a lot less?

Try A-Live Hotel which%26#39;s much cheaper, or JC Mandarin.

Hotel location near great street food

Cheaper is ok, as long as it%26#39;s clean. I have a map of Shanghai, where is the good street food, is it on one of the side streets off W. Nanjing Rd near the Shanghai Center? Are there any smaller, boutique-style or historic hotels in the area?

Thanks

Yes, correct, it%26#39;s called Wujiang Lu.

That%26#39;s exactly what I already provided. A-Live Hotel *is* boutique-style.

Hi most of the hotels near Peoples square r within walking distance to great food.Hotels like JCMandarin,Park hotel,Ramada Plaza,Radisson i guess r really good hotels to stay in comfort sine yr budget is around2000Rmb so might as well stay in good hotels. When i travel food n good accomodation is my main priority.Wujianglu,Huanghe lu,Nanjing pdestrian Street,HuaihaiZhonglu eith the sidestreet like Maoming lu,Nanjing xi lu have many good restaurants.U may be spoilt for choice as far as Shanghai is concerned not like at yr home where u may only packed Yangzhoufried rice home.,not in Shanghai too many choices n great food.

Me too, food and accommodation, especially with regards to location are most important. I don%26#39;t need the business services, restaurants, large lobby etc. of the big hotels. I%26#39;m more interested in eating local, inexpensive food then hotel restaurants or expensive, fancy places run by world famous chefs. I%26#39;m especially interested in Shanghainese soup dumplings and other local favorites. We%26#39;ll be in Chengdu, Beijing, Xian, so I really want to sample the local specialties in each city.

Sounds like I should focus on hotels along W. Nanjing road and try to stay within walking distance or short rides to the Shanhgai Museum, street food, People%26#39;s square and The Bund.

Are there any old-school hotels in that area that have been recently refurbished or are still in great shape?

A-list looks good too.

How bout the Four Seasons? They have a rate for 2000 including breakfast. It looks real close to Wujiang Fu and might be nice as a splurge for the last two nights (it is our 20th anniversary trip).

4 Seasons is a good hotel but I don%26#39;t think much of its location, and it%26#39;s not particularly close to Wujiang Lu either. I don%26#39;t think there%26#39;re any old-school boutique hotels near that area.

Actually, I would say that a lot of good restaurants are actually in the French Concession area, primarily around Shaanxi Nanlu and Huangpi Nanlu metro stops. If you%26#39;re interested in boutique hotels this area I would suggest that you try Mansions Hotel (http://www.chinamansionhotel.com) or perhaps 88 Xintiandi (http://www.88xintiandi.com); Donghu Hotel is another good choice.

I%26#39;ve been looking into China Mansion, it looks like the type of hotel I%26#39;d like and the rates aren%26#39;t too bad. So, there would be good, not ridiculously expensive restaurants in that area? It looks fairly close to a metro station, would that be the best way to get to the Museum and Nanjing road area? We%26#39;ll really only have one full day there.

How bout Heng Shan Moller Villa? Has anyone been there recently? How%26#39;s the location?

Yes, Mansion Hotel is in between Shaanxi Nanlu and Changshu Lu metro stops, on line 1. Look on http://www.exploreshanghai.com/metro/ for an interactive map of Shanghai%26#39;s metro.

Yes, definitely good and reasonably-priced restaurants available in that area. I live 5 mins from it, so I think I know!

Hengshan Moller Villa is closed for renovations.
