Is bargaining for travel services expected?

I am going to be in Louyang for 1 day. Originally, I figured that I would just hire a taxi for the day when I arrived at the train station.

But my Mandarin is limited to ';hello'; and ';thank-you';. I%26#39;ve learned from my travels in Beijing that taxi drivers should not be expected to speak English. So I contacted an online travel agent (China Highlights) to see what the cost would be to have a driver pick us up who has already been told where we want to go.

The price quoted is about 5 times what I was told to expect to pay for a taxi.

Can I suggest a lower price, or is it take it or leave it?

Write back and say you have received better quotes and ask if they can match them.

Heh, different services, different prices. ;) Try to establish how good the vehicle, and driving skills of the driver, would be.
