Mar or May

Hi,

Because of work constraints, I can go visit Lijiang and Zhongdian either in early March or early May.

Which is better - March or May? Will it be very cold in Zhongdian in early March? Is it the rainy season yet in May?

Thank you.

Mar or May

At the weather.msn.com site enter the word Lijiang in the box. Then select the Lijiang in Yunnan, and finally, click on the link averages. Or just go to this site:

Looks like March is very dry and May is very wet. Expect for it to be much colder in Zhongdian.

Mar or May

Thanks for your advice. Cheers.

Hi,HngDreams,

Personally we recommend May considering the weather and scenery for scenic spots.

I visit Lijiang in May %26amp; Jun of Y2007. I think it is more better for travel.

Enjoy!

Yours sincerely,

Susan Zheng

March is fine, because after chinese spring festival,

May is a bit croeded

How about travelling during Aug.? The Mar.08 having school holidays and silk air ticket price is at high side, if using China Eastern then the timing is bad.

Another question is how many days is the best for us visit Lijiang? (Note: Never been to Lijiang before) Due to work constraints cannot get the leave for maore than 6days, is 4days is enough for us to visit there? We prefer only fix location not must visit the whole place one short.

Just back from Lijiang,i think march will better, spring already come, weather very comfortable in Lijiang and ZHongdian, but maybe May is better for trip to Zhongdian,i went there on 20th Feb,it snowed in Zhongdian. Not lots of tourists

Rainy season is July and August

My heart have problem in Zhongdian:((

August is the rainy season. It wouldn%26#39;t be ideal if you%26#39;re intending to do hiking/trekking eg Tiger Leaping Gorge.

May is much more scenic but if you come early May esp. during the chinese labour day holidays might be crowded.

Last year during the Labour day holidays lijiang was so packed people had to sleep on the streets from lack of rooms. Inns were actually selling floor space in their corridors to guests.

This year its hard to say, they recently changed the labour day holiday from 7 days to 3 days which should lessen the amount of people. However due to the heavy snowfall during the chinese new year, more than 10,000 tour groups headed to lijiang were canceled so many people may attempt to come due to their aborted holiday plans. (Chinese tour groups are huge, they usually number from 30 to 100 people)

As for August, expect many short rain showers when you venture out, they usually last a couple of minutes and can be quite irritating if you are not prepared so keep an umbrella or raincoat handy.

China_Tour_Guide_NO1 - how wet was it when you went? i am hoping to visit yunnan around the end of may to the middle of june...
