I will be in Hong Kong this summer with my girlfriend. I was wondering how much (roughly) one could expect to realistically save on a diamond engagement ring if I was to make the purchase in HK , rather then buy from a jeweller in Canada.
Any tips would be great. Any tips on bargainning would be even better:)
Diamond Engagement Ring - Hong KongI would recommend Aaron Shum
Diamond Engagement Ring - Hong KongI am going to Hong Kong next month.
Did you have any luck buying a diamond there?
visit the Tourist Association%26#39;s approved list of jewellers, and bargain hard. 35, 40% discounts.
the jewellers know how westerners think, that HK is the place to go for jewelry. diamond prices can sometimes reach the sky depending on the color, clarity, cut and how many carats.
chow tai fook is 1 of the more famous jewelry stores and will lessen the chance of being ripped off.
it will be hard to know the ';real'; value or price of diamonds unless this is your line of business so i suggest you bargain hard. real hard.
Hi, to a thread advise, yes, patronize shops accredited to the Quality Tourism Services (QTS) Scheme.
As for bargaining, in HK, there is also an art (or ethnics) to it, only start the bargaining or negotiations, when you are very sure of making the purchase.
Of course, when it comes to diamond, everyone knows about the 4Cs,but get to know the interpretation of the 4Cs, particularly in respect of clarity and color-everyone knows about the other two Cs- a higher carat, but not of higher clarity(and also clearness) have a bearing on price too. Also see the GIA certificate.
I can only refer to a purchase from S%26#39;pore or KL,where I find jewelery(and also gold) are much lower in HK in relation to price, and also better presentation packaging.
And well, notwithstanding price, there is of course, already an imprint of a memory, buying one from HK,then maybe getting another one on your weeding anniversary, in HK again.
the GIA certificate more often than not only accompanies diamonds of great value. lets say $10,000 up?
There is a DeBeers Diamond store just opened near the Landmark in Central and a Tiffany%26#39;s in the IFC.
Jewellery stores in HK are quite bling and often not to westerners taste but I got my engagement ring from Chow Tai Fook and I love it - all authentic.
If you go to Sogo in Causeway By they have a good jewellery area inside which was calmer than many of the shops. Do not shop for jewellery in Mong Kok - there are hundreds of stored but really really busy all the time and the staff don%26#39;t speak much English. Central or Causeway Bay are best.
Hi, firstly congratulations!
HK is a fantastic place to buy diamonds, prices and quality better than here in the UK, not sure about Canada though.
My advise would be to have a good idea as to what you want and to what your budget is, have a look in the in Canada before hand so you can compare, hopefully as in the UK you will be suprised by the price difference against the quality of diamond you can buy.
Most of the jewellery in HK is white gold 18kt, many of the jewellers do not want to put quality diamonds in yellow gold and if they do, they will use white gold settings, so as not to discolour the diamond.
I am sure there are many fantastic jewellers that other members of this forum use but I would personally recommend Prince Jewellery on the ground floor of the Harbour City Shopping Centre near to the Star Ferry Terminal, TST, Kowloon. I have purchased many pieces of jewellery from Raymond at Prince Jewellery which has been valued once back in the UK - I have never been dissapointed.
Good Luck and enjoy your trip! If you want to know prices email me privately.
Wow! What a lucky girl...
On Julie-Ann Frost%26#39;s recommendation, I visited Raymond at Prince Jewellery. We were very very pleased. Raymond and his staff will make you feel special as well and that is important with such an important purchase.
Good luck and enjoy looking!
Hi
I will also be looking for some jewellery and also a watch when we arrive in just over a week.
Do the jewellery shops sell watches like in UK or are the watch shops seperate. I am looking at tag huer, omega and raymond weil.
Thanks
