Beijing To Shanghai

Hi all.

I am arriving in China for my first ever visit on the 23rd April. I will spending a few days in Beijing befiore travelling onto Shanghai. I am still not sure whether to fly or go by train. Train sounds more interesting. Has anyone got any advice and is there somewhere interesting along the way to break the journey up for a day or two if I go by train?

Beijing To Shanghai

You may want to consider stopping at Hangzhou , then move on to Shanghai. I took the overnight Z train from Beijing to Hangzhou. Then, to Shanghai is another short train journey.

For the overnight Z train, the soft sleeper is comfortable, but book the lower bunk. If you going to return to Beijing, then it is advisable to buy return tickets.

I%26#39;ll recommend that you bring aboard dinner/snacks/bottled drink (eg. McDonalds/Kentucky which is around the Beijing railway station) as the train restaurant%26#39;s food is catered more to the locals.

Definitely overnight sleeper train, to save on money and travel time.

What are your sightseeing interests and preferences? There%26#39;re many possible stopover destinations, among them Taishan, Nanjing, Hangzhou and Suzhou.

Trains can be fun if you have time. But if your schedule is limited, a flight will cost around $100.
