China Alone

Hi, can anyone help me with information in how to travel to china alone? travel agencies only book for two or more (from the research i%26#39;ve done) or the ones for single person is almost 2000usd... can i find anything cheaper? can I just go alone and take it from there and figure out my way over there? I need serious help please.

Thanks

Hi, Torrea2100,

I would suggest that, for such critical things as tickets bookings, itinerary arrangements, hotel reservations or recommendations, with little money, you book a private tour guide.

You can pay him/her when you find it necessary to let him/her show you around, arrange for things, etc.

You can also travel alone when you find yourself easy with things around you.

From my experience of over 6 years, 2000usd is too much.

Wish you good Luck,

You can travel in China alone. Hostels and hotels can also help you arrange air and train tickets, and day tours.

If you are up for it, it can be good to stay in hostels where you cam meet up with other people who are traveling, exchange information, and perhaps spend the day touring together.

In hotels you won%26#39;t have as much chance to meet up with other people, so I actually think hostels are much better for traveling on your own. They do offer private rooms, so you don%26#39;t need to stay in a dorm.

Go read on Lonely Planet ThornTree forum, North-East Asia branch: www.lonelyplanet.com/thorntree/forum.jspa鈥?/a>

There%26#39;re plenty of other independent travellers coming to China, without any tours, and most without knowledge of Chinese language either. If they can do it, I don%26#39;t see why you can%26#39;t.

So, I%26#39;ve found out that airplane tickets cannot be cheaper than 1100USD. where can I find a better deal? so I guess my budget is reduced to 1000 - 1500 UDS Maximum for the hotel/travel (airfare inside china)/food/suveneirs, etc... will that be enough? Is September a good time to go?

That%26#39;s probably enough, but of course it depends how long you spend in China and what class of hotel you want to stay in.

Well, I will travel fom sept 5 to sept 16th, that%26#39;s 8 nights... and i have heard that is not recomended to stay in a hotel with less than 4 stars, so i%26#39;d be looking at no more than 80uds per night? $1500 should be enough right?

Thanks for all the help! it is greatly appreciated!!

Is this a troll or are you serious? You are worried about budget, yet you want to stay in 4 star hotels? And you have 8 nights to see the whole of China?

I spent 300 RMB (not much more than $US40) per day for a quick 4 day Easter weekend trip. I spent 2 nights on a bus and 2 nights in a 2 star hotel in a nice single room for 120 RMB ($16); 130 RMB on a day tour to the rice terraces etc. I did not economize on food or drink.

Be more specific about where you want to go and what you want to see. A tour might be the easiest for you in such a short time.

If it%26#39;s not recommendable to stay in anything less than 4-stars then I think I would%26#39;ve been dead many times over. For goodness sakes do you realise how many travellers cannot afford to stay in such luxurious or expensive hotels?

Thanks for the advise, since I have never been to china b4, i thought i%26#39;d ask about rumors that i have heard about the hotels... since they seem to be just rumors I%26#39;ll start looking for something more fitting to my budget :)

thanks again 4 all the help :)
