I have a few questions before I finish my plans for the Beijingtrip. I will be there from April 7 - 17 and I am traveling alone. One day I am going to the great wall with http://www.tingstours.com/. Another day with a guide or with cyclechina.com/Tours/鈥?00751300178.html.
I am planning to use a guide in Beijing for one ore two days. I know I don%26#39;t need a guide there, but my health is not too good and then I don%26#39;t need to use my energi on finding the way to all the places. Were do you think it%26#39;s preferable to use a guide? Do you have some suggestions? I would be happy. I am staying in the Hutongs.
I have also read about taylors here, but I am still confused-I need a good taylor to make a coupple of jackets to me (woman), but not too expencieve.
Thanks very much.
Advice for Beijing
The Temple of Heaven, Summer Palace, Tiananmen Square, and the Forbidden City are all enormous, so perhaps a guide will help you get to the highlights without wasting a lot of extra time wandering around.
Otherwise, you can take a taxi from your hotel to places and back and can probably avoid too much extra trouble even if you go on your own. Even them it%26#39;s possible that you will have some trouble finding the actual ticket window and entrance, though.
On the plus side, you have plenty of time, so you don%26#39;t need to try to pack everything in to one day. I recommend allowing plenty of time at each location and taking advantage of the tea shops to sit and have some tea, enjoy the surroundings, and get off of your feet.
As for tailors, go to the Yaxiu market on your fist full day in Beijing. On one of the upper floors you will find lots of tailors and can arrange to have your jackets made. The cost will depend very much on the material.
If you search the forum you will find that some guides receive a lot of recommendations.
