Can one or can one not change RMB back to other currency?

I tried doing a forum search about this and didn%26#39;t find anything, but maybe I%26#39;m not searching with the right words. I have seen some sources that say, ';Once you change your money to RMB, you can%26#39;t change it back, so you have to spend it.'; I have seen other sources, including TA%26#39;s posted advice, say that you should keep your exchange receipts and you can change up to half of it back when leaving the country. Does anyone know which is true? I also saw something that made it sound like you *could* exchange it back at the airport, but you may not have time to do that and catch your flight. Any advice is appreciated.

I have had no problem changing RMB back into US dollars. I have done so many times. In the airports in Shanghai and Beijing as well as the airport in San Francisco. My only advice is to spend all your coins before leaving China, as the exchange agents in the United States do not like to accept them as a rule.

The official rule is you have to show the original receipt to exchange RMB back to USD.

As long as you have the original exchange memo showing that you changed the other currency into RMB, you won%26#39;t have any problem exchanging it back.

OK, thank you everyone....

Now I must deal with my personal dilemma..do I tell my husband we can change the money back, or tell him I%26#39;ve read we can%26#39;t, so we should buy some things with it?

:)

That%26#39;s not a unique dilemma. ;)
