Airport transfers I cant help you with, but taxis are cheap, and I stayed in Green trees hotel, very central, nice clean hotel, 220yuan a night for a mid class room which was really nice. Prob got a web site you can Google.
Price could be around 1000 yuan...
My concern is location for touring which Padong seems far away from sights...
Any hotels near or on the Bund? Some hotels offer airport transfers which I thought would be easier...
Hi for 1000Rmb/nite u can stay in most of the 4 star hotels .If u want to be close to the metro n the bund i feel Central hotel,Ramada Plaza,Howard Johnson at JiuJiang lu fits u well. They do have airport transfers but it will cost more butu can get a cab easily at the entrance of the hotels n cost about 130Rmb to the airport.Even if the hotels r to arrange the airport transfer for u it should be not more than 150Rmb.
What do you think of Astor House? Low price doesnt seem right.
I will check the places you recommmended ...being American i am not partial to Howard Johnson!
i am really set on the Bund area and river walking even though hotels seem old....
Broadway Mansions?
thank you so much as i am clueless!
Hi Astor House n the Broadway, both r colonial heritage type hotels been refurbished not too long ago,3 n 4 star rated respectively.Astor House at huangpu road n Broadway at Suzhou lu,both the hotels r situated by the bund, tho the braoadway u need to cross a bridge to the bund but just mins away. Both the hotels offer splendid view of the bund n the huangpu river but these 2 hotels r situated at the old part of Shanghai, the surroundingareas may not be that classy n appealing but the rooms r spacious n very nice esp after the renovations at Mansions hotel.Pls do not mistake this from the China mansions hotel.as the location is totally different. There is notmuch of atractions within the hotels vicinity but its only about 1 km from the famous Nanjing Pedestrian street n the metro.station.U need to walk a distance of about 1 kmif u want to catch the metro or take a cab which is also easily obtained at the hotels.I would say that u get the bund as a neighbourhood n a splendid view from the rooms but if u want to go to Nanjing pedestrian street,Peoples park/square n the museum well u have some walking to do but its not to say thatits too far away.If u do enjoy walking then i assume theres no problem at all.Seriously u may consider Hoaward Johnson or the Ramada ,Bund Hotel, the road to the bund Nanjing lu is full of shops form here about 1 km to the bund as u stroll along as u window shop in no time u will reach the bund as this is a popular shopping street.
WOW..thank you so much! In my desire to be close to the Bund I really dont want to be in an old neighborhood off the beated path.....I will look into the Bund hotel as well as the others and let go of my desire to view the river and the padong skyline!
I will not be there until 24 April ....
April is a good time to visit Shanghai n i hope u have a most pleasant n delightful time in Shanghai,.
1000 a night can cover most 4 stars and even some low end 5 stars, just find any newly decorated one in within skyway circle in the puxi area. Try to find those one are recently decorated. When I was a student, I sometime book those 3 star hotel to spend sometime with my GFs, a new decorated 3 star hotel in shanghai could be way better than those 4 stars in the states.
For a first timer in Shanghai i would say the 4 star rated hotels like Ramada Plaza,HowardJohnsonPlaza,or the Central hotel,Bund hotel r the best as the Nanjing donglu is always full of actions n performances ,n eraly morning exercises where u can join in.Also u dont have to worry that u will get lost as evrybody knows these hotels or this most famous street besides the bund or Oriental tower. So it impossible to get lost.,well assured.
