Late ferry arrival question

Hello -

I will be travelling with a group of 7 (all moms and daughters) and we will be taking the last ferry from HK airport on a Friday night. I believe it departs at 10 something. On arrival in Macau will there still be ample taxi transportation available? Since we are arriving so late and our primary purpose is just an overnight stay before flying out from the Macau airport, are there any hotels that are closer to the ferry terminal that anyone would suggest?

Thanks much -

Lisa D

Late ferry arrival question

Taxis always available from the ferry terminal.

Why not stay near the airport? The hotel is ok - I think it is called Golden Crown China Hotel.

Late ferry arrival question

No problem getting taxis, but with a group of seven it might be easier to catch a hotel shuttle bus - many hotels also have them running through the night.

I would not, however, recommend the airport hotel - it%26#39;s dark, dingy, and reeks of smoke from all the mainland Chinese tour groups. Taipa Best Western would be a better choice, only 5 minutes by taxi to the airport, but even if you stay at a downtown hotel (like Sintra, Guia, Royal, Riviera) it is still only 15 minutes or so from the airport.

Thanks. We want to stay downtown because our flight doesn%26#39;t leave until the next evening so we want to see as much as we can during the day. Since we will have been travelling in excess of 24 hours by the time we reach Macau, I want to minimize our travel time from ferry terminal to hotel. Are all of the downtown hotels about the same distance?

Thanks -

Lisa

Hi Lisa D, the ones recommended in an earlier thread,e.g. Guia,Sintra etc. can be considered,e.g. like Sintra, you are only minutes walk away from Macau%26#39;s iconic landmark-St Paul Ruins, and also Senado Square, and the best part, when you arrive at Macau ferr y terminal, you can take the complimentary shuttle bus of Sintra hotel, which are across the road from the ferry terminal(use the underground pedestrian subway)-located towards your right, when you exit from terminal building.

Guia is also recommended,as the Guia lighthouse is nearby, and also the Flora gardens.

Macau is much smaller even than Singapore, so it%26#39;s difficult to be a long way from anywhere ... the Royal Hotel, for instance, is considered ';out of the way'; because it takes a whole 15 minutes to walk downtown!

As a mothers %26amp; daughters group, I guess you want to avoid the red light pockets (too small to be called districts) around the casinos; in this case recommended hotels would include Sintra, Guia or Royal. The Sintra is the most central of these.

Unfortunately you will be there on a Friday night, so prices will be high, but macau.com often still has some bargains.

Some good news if you are flying out of Macau is that 90 minutes ahead of the flight is plenty early enough to arrive at the check-in counter.
