Metropark, Kowloon (Mong Kok?)

We will be staying in the Metropark Kowloon in May. I would be really grateful for any advice on the range of dining options close to the hotel.

I understand the Metropark is in an area away from a lot of the more touristy places so we are prepared to try almost anything.

As I guess we will also do a fair bit of wandering around on public transport, recommendations from farther afield would not go amiss.

My definition of being rich is to make 拢1 more than my wife can spend so she will probably want to partake in things like head massage and other forms of pampering, any ideas ?

Theresa%26#39;s cafe, as you leave the hotel turn right and it is 3 or 4 doors up. Not flash but has a variety of food, locals seem to frequent the place and we found the food good and very cheap.

Thanks, I%26#39;ll add that to our list, good and cheap are two qualities we appreciate :)

Theresas here we come.

Hey, another Theresa%26#39;s fan. We ate there a few times as well. If you ask for chopsticks and Chinese tea, they%26#39;ll think you%26#39;re the greatest thing since sliced bread :-)

Another cheap and very good on HKI is Beijing Shui Jiao Wong, 118 Jaffe Rd. If you%26#39;re in Wan Chai buying shoes or whatever, it%26#39;s a good place to stop for a cheap, tasty and filling meal. Don%26#39;t go for the ambience, because there isn%26#39;t any unless you love 50s working mens%26#39; cafeterias :-)

We also enjoyed two meals at the Golden Bull in the Ocean Centre (1st floor), mid-range price, gourmet Vietnamese food. Lonely Planet describes the service as ';abrupt';, but I can only think they were there on a bad day as we found it excellent. If you get a dinner table by the window you can see a lot of the Symphony of Lights show, though without the musical accompaniment.

There%26#39;s a Wellcome supermarket across the road where you can buy snacks and drinks and such to take back to the hotel, and a bakery on the same side of the road about a corner up, where you can get yummy sweet and savoury breads and pastries for breakfast. Across the street also is a cheap and good laundry (don%26#39;t pay the hotel prices, they charge for one garment what you%26#39;ll pay for a full load across the street).

To get into town we found it easiest to use the bus that goes from a stop across the street and about a block closer into town. Coming back the bus stop is just before the hotel. The public bus goes right into the Star Ferry terminal, whereas the free hotel bus stops further away.

Do get Octopus Cards (you%26#39;ll need one each) to use on the public transport; you get a bit of a discount and they save having to keep the right change handy.

I just remembered there%26#39;s also an in-house upscale restaurant (not the buffet restaurant, we didn%26#39;t eat there though it looked good), which we had a discount voucher in the room kit for, which made it not a cheap meal but not a terribly expensive one either. The food was great and the service very attentive, so if you want a special night and have one of the vouchers, I%26#39;d say take advantage of it!

That great , really useful info, any ideas on Massage, pedicures, tai chi???

Sorry, no, didn%26#39;t do those.

House of Tang is the name of the restraunt. We ate there, it was OK but we were only 1 of two tables and the price was fairly high. The buffet was good but cost for 5 of us was $200Aus (with a voucher) compared to $30Aus at Theresas.

We are just back from a wonderful trip to Hong kong where we stayed in the Metropark hotel for 4 nights. We ate breakfast every morning in hotel which turned out to be 2 for the price of 1.The hotel bar had a happy hour every night from 6 to 9 and also served food until 9.We ate dinner there on 3 nights which was very reasonable and very nice. Our only complaint was the cold in the bar which had no door so a jumper or fleece is a must.Overall a great hotel which we hope to return to.
