Can you advise me if it is worthwhile to travel to the Wolong Nature Reserve and where to stay if I do so? I prefer modest accommodation like the Wenjum Mansions Hotel, not 4-5 star hotels. I will be in Chengdu in May 2008 and am wondering if the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding would be sufficient.
Pandas
AFAIK Wolong is off-limits to foreigners at the moment.
Pandas
Are there any problems right now with foreigners visiting Chengdu or visiting the Panda Research and Breeding Center?
I haven%26#39;t heard any restrictions for Chengdu and its panda reserve.
There seems to be no evidence that Wolong is off limits.
If you go to the link I give - written by the people who actually know what%26#39;s going on - we are told Wolong is open.

As for Chengdu - the small Tibetan quarter in the center of the city is still surrounded by a police presence (roads closed to traffic). I spent Friday evening in a Tibetan restaurant, which normally is full, and also attracts some Chinese - but the only other visitors were a handful of monks!!!!!
I would emphasise that this is only a tiny part of Chengdu - Chengdu proper remains the same.
