I%26#39;ve found a guide that I want to work with that%26#39;s come highly recommended, but one of the members of my tour group is (I think legitmately) concerned about what kind of information we should get from him, especially since we%26#39;re two women traveling alone. Is there any piece of information that I should be looking for? Should I be concerned if a guide isn%26#39;t ';ceritified';? Thanks!
What info should I get on a guide?...and thanks to all of you that have already given me help with this.
What info should I get on a guide? If you are refering to Alvin as we wrote about, he is certified. One upside to this is that he gets in for free at almost all the sights.
This question is impossible to answer. Why isn%26#39;t the person certified yet working as a tour operator? That would be my first question. An uncertified operator is unregulated - they won%26#39;t have an IC card, they would not have passed an official tourism exan and they will not have a tour plan from a recognised travel agency.. That%26#39;s not to say that they aren%26#39;t any good - because they might be fantastic. So I would ask - Why haven%26#39;t you chosen to be certified? Have you ever been employed by an offical tour company?
The problem could arise though that this person turns out to be completely useless and just disappears. Who will you turn to then? If you are planning just a day trip with such a person than you can recover your losses - but if you book with this person and are unsatisfied with them then who can you turn to. My only suggestion would be that if you use such a person than make sure you make no advance payments. Pay by the end of each day - do not commit to anything else.
you can tell his name to others and we may help you
many good guides, such Alvin, Qing, Jack, Jhon
you can see thier names in the forum
if one stranger , maybe you can ask him to send the picture of his tour guide cetificate or some useful certificate
or you just find travel agency
Ooohhh...I think I see where I may be confused. I did book someone from this forum, but I believe he is a driver and not an actual guide. I assume that if he%26#39;s driving, then he wouldn%26#39;t even need to be a certified guide...right?
You could ask - are you the owner of the vehicle?
Does the vehicle have seatbelts - in the back and front seats that are useable? When was the car maintained? What is your license number and where is the vehicle registered? Do you have any references?
