I find China very safe everywhere. I have travelled a lot there i have never felt threatened anywhere. I was in LiJiang last May and found the weather perfect at that time.

No security problems. Just be on your usual alert. Not like in Singapore where everyone seems to be so lax about their belongings%26#39; safety.

Was in the Ancient City, Lijiang on my own for 3 days before my friend joined me. It is pretty safe there and people there are generally helpful. You may want to stay in a hotel or inn that%26#39;s nearer to Sifangjie so that it%26#39;s easier (and feel safer) to walk back on your own after watching Naxi Ancient Music or other night activities. The streets can get pretty dark esp. at the further end of Wuyi Street. It helps a lot if you are can speak Mandarin. The usual precautionary measures when travelling apply.

Agree with everyone, safe in Lijiang and Dali.Lijiang not good between July and sep,it is rainning season, when i was there the driver told me Spring time(March to May) is good time

I travel alone for two weeks in May%26#39;07. It is a exciting trip if you communicate people from different country. I feel very happy and of course, you need to remember not stay too late for pub or street during evening. Daytime is ok.

Be careful in the night after 9pm ,and best time its depond on ,such as if you like blue sky is from Oct to Feb,if green everywhere is June to Sep.

Its quite safe here really, in Lijiang old town you basically don%26#39;t have to worry before 11 pm as most of the shops are still open and the street lights are still on. Just beware of the pickpockets and stuff, the usual precautions anyone should take when travelling but you very seldom get a stand up robbery case.

if you can speak chinese even better but most of the people here are used to helping poor lost and confused tourist as lijiang old town can be a maze to someone who never been here before.

But if you decide to stay in Suhe, than try to head back to your inn by 9am as the shops there close much earlier.

Also be warned that quite a few inns have a 11-12 am curfew so if you decide to go out late, you might get locked out or end up disturbing the other guests when you knock on the door to wake up the owners to open them for you. make sure you check before going out.

if you need more help or info let me know as i am in lijiang and more than willing to offer my aid
