Anything BUT travellers%26#39; cheques, it seems like to me.

using a pre-paid visa electron credit card in China

why? whats wrong with travellers cheques in china?

More difficult, troublesome and take more time to cash.

Not just China. A friend who does not travel much went to France last year for the fisrt time in 20 years. Even the banks would not cash his travellers cheques!!! I thought travellers cheques did not exisy any more until I read about them in this forum. Good old bank card works fine everywhere in the world.

i went round the world visiting america, australia and japan last year and had no problems with t/cheques

i never went to a bank, and just cashed them at the hotel or at the airport bureau de change

the only thing that makes me weary to use them on this trip is because ill be on a tour and not 100% sure when or if ill be able to change them

the prepaid credit card would be the ideal solution i guess

When you going to China Monkey??

You can use the pre-paid card anywhere visa is accepted, but you pay through the roof for the priviledge. Study the long list of fees. Despite what people say, Traveller cheques are not dead, far from it.

many thanks for the replies guys,.

im still totally unsure of what to take though :(

It sounds like you don%26#39;t have an ATM card.

In my opinion, the best thing to do would be to go open a checking account to get an ATM card. In the U.S., small local banks and credit unions tend to offer the lowest fees on international ATM transactions.

The visa cash card would be convenient, though you%26#39;ll pay for the privilege.

Next would be to simply take cash to change, though there would be a small chance of it being lost or stolen.

Finally, you most likely you can cash traveler%26#39;s checks at the hotels where you are staying without too much trouble, though your tour provider should really be able to confirm this. If the hotels don%26#39;t change them, it can be a bit of a pain to find a bank that will change them and you%26#39;ll need to go to major branches of the largest banks--Bank of China or CITIC.

If you use cash or traveler%26#39;s checks, you should change some money into local currency immediately at a money change window in the airport upon arrival.

my travel agent has advised to take us dollar traveller cheques. but id have to exchange my english pounds into us dollars and then again us dollars into yuan

i was thinking of just taking 4,150 yuan for a 9 day tour (including the day you fly to and from, so its only really 7)

all my meals are paid for so the 4,150 would just be for souveneirs etc?
