The Peak and Lantau Isle - Causeway Bay place to stay?

We%26#39;ve got 2 nights and one full day in HK. Narrowed our tiny itinery to seeing Lantau Island and The Peak. I have promised my husband I will NOT go shopping :( (heading to Europe for a month so don%26#39;t want to lug things around!)

Based on these two attactions and the need to get to the airport for a 7.30am flight would Causeway Bay be the best location. Don%26#39;t want to hassle too much getting around in one day. Thanks!

yup causeway bay would be a good choice.

While Causeway Bay is fine, it would mean an earlier start to get to the airport the next day. For that reason, I%26#39;d stay in Kowloon - and catch the first airport express train in the morning.

Or, if the budget allows, you could stay at the Novotel Citygate, which is less than 10 minutes from the airport, and right on top Tung Chung MTR station, so you can get all around Hong Kong and Kowloon with ease (unlike in Sydney, people complain because the trains ';only'; run once every 7 - 10 minutes from Tung Chung). From here you can also catch buses to other parts of Lantau Island.

If you want to have a good sleep the night before you catch the 7.30 am flight, the airport hotels are good choices. There are two hotels in Tung Chung area. One is Novetel Citygate, but the more convenient one is Regal Airport which is at the annex of the departure hall.

Causeway Bay is a great place, but I agree it%26#39;s probably a bit far from the airport for a 7.30 start, which in fact will actually be much earlier because of check-in times? Transport to the airport from Causeway Bay can take up to an hour depending on how you go and what the traffic is like. We found that airport transfer bus operators tend to be just a bit optimistic about how long it%26#39;s going to take and what bus you should catch. So if you do stay in Causeway Bay make sure you allow plenty of time to get to the airport.

Thanks everyone. The Novatel Citygate sounds good. Going by a map provided by another TA it looks like Lantau Island would be easy to get to from the Novatel say in the morning and then we could get to The Peak in the afternoon? Would this work?

The Novotel Citygate is actually on Lantau Island, so it should really be a question of what part of Lantau you want to see (it%26#39;s bigger in area than HK Island). Disneyland, Big Buddha, and Tai O Fishing Village are some popular attractions.

From Tung Chung (where the Novotel is), it%26#39;s just half an hour by train into town, so you can definitely do the Peak in an afternoon or evening.

Thank you for clarifying where the Novatel is situated. The Novatel definitely seems to be the best located hotel for what we want to do. Also the free shuttle is a bonus. I noticed on their website they guarantee the lowest rates and will discount by 10% if you can proove you can get it cheaper online somewhere else (which I don%26#39;t think anyone can).

I thought HK was all about shopping but there seems to be so much to do there apart from that. I%26#39;m very excited even though it is only a 2 night stopover.

Thanks again everyone who replied to my post.
