I am in HK in a week and have been told to organize a travelex card to use while there at ATM%26#39;s so cash is not taken. Has anyone got any feedback as to the ease of use etc for me about these cards?
Travelex EFTPOS Card
Hi
Very easy to use anywhere in the world really. Can be used at any atm with visa and I think plus or cirrus symbols. You pay for the card and charge with your own money, you can add more at any time via bpay. Choose a pin number and withdrawal in local currency is that easy. You can keep track of what is left on card through a secure log in on the travelex site also.

Travelex EFTPOS Card
Sounds like a good card.
Are there fees when using the card to withdraw cash? Also is the card only available for Australians, or can anyone use it?
I think most of the bigger countries have them avail as travelex is worldwide. Have a look at the website and see if the country you require is avail in the drop down box.

There are fees involved, when you buy the card (which is valid for 3 years I think), when you add money via bpay to recharge it (I think it%26#39;s 1%) and yes when you withdraw, for us in Aus it%26#39;s about $3.00 a transaction I think.
I haven%26#39;t used mine since 2005 so it%26#39;s now expired. I stopped due to the increase in fees. It%26#39;s now just the same as using my debit card from my Aussie bank! Actually using my NAB debit card is cheaper. However for many people this is not the case with their banks charging in the vicinity for $ 8.00 per transaction.
So you really just have to look at the fine print and do the sums.

Thanks
Card not available in Hong Kong - and given the charges I don%26#39;t think it would be popular if it was!
mmmm, didn%26#39;t think so, sorry.
Great concept when it first came out, there were no fees to recharge and to withdraw at an ATM was $1.00AUD. Fantastic. But then inflation and banks got a hold and of course popularity increased so the fees skyrocketed.
I still think ATM%26#39;s are the way to go as you get the local currency instantly, you just need to be observant and have some common sense.
Happy travels

I have just got a NAB Visa debit gold card and any transaction from any ATM throughout the world is free! Can%26#39;t beat that for value. Our salaries are deposited into it, which takes us over the $$$$$ deposit requirement per month, so the entire account has no fees whatever, for unlimited online, BPay and ATM transactions.
We have the same deal!!!
I just don%26#39;t tell people that , hehe. I can go anywhere in the world and withdraw money and only pay the currency conversion fee.
Thanks NAB!

We used the wizard clear advantage mastercard, no teller fees and no conversion fees, anywhere in the world. 55 days interest free (except for cash withdrawls, unless you load the card with cash before going).
Went in January %26amp; only had to pay in March.
It gets heaps of good reviews all over the internet on travel sites and for us it was wonderful.
Get this I bank with HSBC and ther head office is in Hong kong. But I still get charged for drawing money out of my account that I bank with. How wrong is that.I could understand it I used any old cash point but not the one you bank with.I checked before i went. Then thought sod ya and changed my money over before we went.
Thanks everyone for the feedback, I now wish i was using a different bank to get the deals you guys are getting.
