1. I realised that for some websites, even airlines, they request for a credit card issued in China for payment. Are the foreign issued credit cards not acceptable in most parts of China for general business transactions (not referring to 4-5 star international chain hotels etc.)
2. What is the best way to secure train tickets (soft sleepers)and flight tickets, since I will be travelling mainly on the typical tourist route and the last portion of my travel being on the Oct 1-5 Golden Holidays week?
3. Re day tours, e.g. in Datong, can we just sign up upon reaching that location, i.e. arrive early morning and sign up for a day tour the same day?
4. How best can I secure hostel accommodation, especially in Jiuzhaigou just before the Oct 1 holidays?
Basic questions for China travel
1. Foreign issued credit cards can be used for general business transactions, although cash is more popular for lower cost items.
2. Flights tickets - use a service such as elong.net Can be a pain if they need you to fax documents but you get the ticket. For train tickets use your hotel or hostel.
3. I%26#39;d say yes, or the day before.
4. Email / book in advance?
Basic questions for China travel
';International'; credit cards will work whereever they accept credit card but many places don%26#39;t, particularly restaurants.
Check your airline tickets on elong but it is simpler to buy from your hotel.
1) Don%26#39;t count on it. Use RMB cash!
2) Flight tickets can be bought ahead of time. Train tickets you%26#39;ll probably need to rely on your accommodation at each destination. Or, email me at ellyse99@yahoo.com and I%26#39;ll see if I have any contacts to help -- please put ';TripAdvisor'; and your own username (eg dtanel) in the subject line.
3) Yes.
4) We went to Jiuzhaigou just before the October holiday week and had not much problem finding a triple room with ensuite for about 120 RMB. No English spoken, of course!
