help for info on hotels in Shanghai

The wife and me will be in Shanghai from 20th May to 25th May, will be doing the customary shopping/sightseeeing during the day and clubing at night. Need some help to book a hotel - budget US$ 150/- , which would be the best area and ofcourse the best hotel ?

I have selected some hotels like Crowne Plaza Fudan, Salvo Hotel %26amp; Hua Ting Hotel %26amp; Towers. How do these match up ?

Hi can u consider Ramada Plaza,Central Hotel or Charms hotel.or maybe even the Park hotel or Bund hotel.Ther r more or less around yr budget but beter location in terms of shopping n near to Xintiandi n the Bund. But if u need tog o clubbing u can always go tto Xintiandi which is walking distance or take a metro or cab doesnt cost much to Hengshan lu or Maoming nan lu for clubbing.Maybe evnen Hongkong plaza service apartment is also good.

What do you think of the Radisson New World, I know it would stretch my budget a bit - Is it a new hotel ?

Hi its not a new hotel been around for a few yrs but it is in a very good location at 88 nanjing Road just short distance to the Peoples Square n metro. Its also a 5starrated hotel with fantastic view of Pudong n towards Nanjing donglu.I would say its definitely a very good hotel n location is almost perfect.

Crowne Plaza Fudan is obviously out of the question since the location is awful. Unless you plan to be doing something at the university?!

For the remaining three, my personal preference: Radisson New World, Salvo Hotel, Huating Hotel.

@ellyse: Is the Salvo Hotel a decent choice (location, cleanliness)? Have to decide between Salvo Hotel and Radisson New World, Salvo being 70% below room rate of Radisson. Reviews of Radisson are great, but is it worth the extra money? Don%26#39;t neccessarily want to spend too much money.

Thanks!

Hmmm I found Salvo Hotel quite good enough but the location of Radisson New World can%26#39;t be beat, of course.

Hi Radisson hotel is 4 to 5 star rated but Salvo is 3 star.ofcourse the diferrences r there in term of luxuries n location as well. But on the other hand Salvo hotel is also not bad its quite good in location nearer to the Bund n also near to Nanjing pedestrian Street n amenities though not 5 star its good enough. If u want to save of cos its worth it.

Have reserved Hotel Kapok in Beijing . Any info on this hotel ? Location , rooms, etc

Wht%26#39;s the best way to get from Pudong Airport to Salvo Hotel ? and guys thanks for the updates , keep it coming.

will u pay slghtly more for a suite room about 180USD at Ramada Plaza at Jiujiang lu?Location is the best n if dont have much luggage to carry u can take the Maglev train to Longyang at Pudong(7 mins ride over 30 km at 431km/hr)then take the adjacent metro line 2 to Nanjing donglu station(from Lonagyang takes about 15 mins).Come out of the station u r just 5 mins walk to the hotel. If u stay at Charms.,star Charms hotel about the same location suite room cost about 850Rmb.with buffet breakfast inclusive.Location of these 2 hotels r better than the Salvo or Radisson.Alternatively u can take a cab direct form the airport to the hotel cost about 130 to 140Rmb. same for Salvo hotel though i doubt u can drag yr luggaget o the hotel if u take the metro its a distance to walk about 15 mins walk from the metro station. On the other hand if u r on a tight budget u can consider shuttle bus.
