Macau Weather & Dress Enquiry

Hi, my wife and I are visiting Macau (Mandarin Oriental) in December.

What sort of weather can we expect in terms of temperature?

What dress code is expected? for example men wearing tailored shorts, smart casual shirt, leather thongs or casuals....would this be acceptable even for Casinos?

Thanks,

Denza

Hi Denza, weather is getting pretty unpredictable these days.We were there in end Feb,which was supposed to be towards end of winter, but temperature was below the normal pattern.Month of Dec is their winter season, temperature are forecasted to hover around 10-11 deg C,with temp dipping in the evenings.

Mind you, during this time, in HK-Lantau Island, temperature of below 7 deg C was also reported.

So, a proper dress code is expected in the better casinos, and leather thongs are not encouraged.

In a country, such as Macau(and HK),dressing does make an important first impression.

As mKiara said, last winter was COLD, but December was still okay - most days in the low 20s.

Most Chinese men don%26#39;t wear shorts apart from for work; you would probably feel out of place wearing them in a casino, and certainly in any of the Mandarin%26#39;s restaurants (apart from the pool bar in the resort section). Apart from the ladies%26#39; elegant high-heeled variety, thongs (that%26#39;s flip-flops to you American speakers) are absolutely not worn in public by respectable people in Macau.
