i would appreciate your help in advising me what water town near shanghai would be the best for a day trip in late may this year....taking into consideration travel time, beauty and crowds...we have 4 adults traveling and does any one know a private driver that could take us for the day....i am only guessing but this would appear to be the most cost effective means ....thanks

Personally I would suggest Xitang (members.virtualtourist.com/m/1d57/f2e9f/t/) or Tongli (http://www.tongli.net). Go on a weekday, and try to stay overnight.

Most cost-effective? Not necessarily, but perhaps the least hassle on-the-spot.
