We tend to get up early and like to get to tourist sites as early as possible. We are planing to visit the Great Wall at Mutianyu and would like to arrive at about 8/9 am to enable us to spend time taking photographs while the light is good.
My question is what time would we need to leave our hotel (Novotel Peace) to get to Mutianyu for 8/9am and what time does the cable car open ?
We also plan to arrange for a carso that we canhike the wall from Jinshanling and Simatai. Again what time would we need to leave to enable us to arrive when the wall opens.
Rush Hour and Opening times
No sure what time wall opens, but to get to mutianyu at 9, you need to leave at about 7ish. Earlier if its Mon or Fri cos traffic%26#39;s awful
Rush Hour and Opening times
1. Rush hour in Beijing
Novotel Peace is located at Wangfujing, beside Taiwan Hotel at the very center of Beijing city. If you want to arrive earlier, I recommend you to leave at 6:30 or 6:40 to avoid the 7:00-9:00 rush hour. It is only 20 minutes earlier but it is enough for you to get out of downtown and avoid the everyday traffic jam in Beijing.
2. For Simatai and Jinshanling
Simatai ticket 40 Yuan; Jinshanling ticket 50 Yuan
For Jinshanling:
It sounds that Jingshangling is far away from Simatai(28km). When you watch map you will find that the route is like a big circle.
Though the distance of road is 28 KM, you walk only 6 km ( it is said 10.5Km on internet) on Jinshanling wall and some distance between the wall and parking lot. If you leave your Novotel peace at 6:30 AM, you will arrive at 9:15 (you skip the rush hour). You can spend three hours and half on Jinshanling. The time is for average adults. You need get off the Jinshanling Great wall at the entrance of Simatai, so you need to buy ticket again.
As David said, you do not walk back, as you driver is waiting you at the parking lot at the foot of the mountain.
PS: Some local villagers will offer a helping hand in exchange of selling post cards and books. They do no harm.
You surely have a memorable hike on Jinshaling!!!
thanks for all the advice leaving at 6.30 should pose no problem hopefully hotel opens early for breakfast.
looking through the forum I see that we should pay around 600yaun for a taxi to the wall would that be just for the Mutianyu section ? How much should we pay for the Jinshanling and Simatai section ??
have also read somewhere but cant seem to remember where, that there is a section of wall that enters the sea is this near to Beijing and can it be done as a day trip ??
thanks in advance for all the help
Friend just went to Jinshanling last weekend. She paid 700RMB for the cab
Be leery of taking a cab. We encountered a few dishonest cab drivers and communicating with them is like speaking Chinese to you (in the true sense) and you have no clue what they are saying nor do they have a cluewhat you%26#39;re saying. Encountered cab pimps at the airport that wanted 300 for 75cny trip. Finally our metered driver had 77cny total. I gave him a 100cny note, he gave me 3 back, I sat there and waited, then finally showed him the receipt. He finally relinquished the othe 20 as I was writing his number down. The the drivers in the tourist spots will not automatically take you. They wanted to charge a flat fee or premium for taking you to your destination. This happened 3 times to us, at Wangfujing, Summer Palace and Forbidded City. Not all were bad, we had several that went by the meter without a problem.
Highloyo, the driver was charging extra for the toll, this is not showing on the meter. You have to pay for tolls.
